Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had sanctioned Rs.30 crore. For the festivals of Bonalu and Ramzan. most of which were already taken up at mosques and temples, GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said here on Friday.

The Commissioner who along with Police Commissioner P. Mahender Reddy participated in ‘Shikara Pooja’ and ‘Dwajarohanam’ as part of Bonalu festival at the Lal Darwaza Mahankali Temple in the old city, said the civic body had taken up sanitation works despite strike call given by some of the unions.

Elaborate arrangements, including deployment of JCBs and tippers were made in each ward to tackle emergency situations, he said.

Mr. Mahender Reddy said 15,000 police personnel were deployed for peaceful celebrations of both the festivals in the city and additional forces were also readily available to handle any eventualities, according to a press release.
